Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 - 22:23 Three in the Bed & The Lawn of Faces Hello gentle Reader. Once again, we have two dreams for this entry. The first dream concerned Jasper and I. We were in my bed, enjoying some feverish ‘frolics’ and generally having a wonderfully wicked time together. I remember smiling up at him. He was leaning on his arms, resting his lower body upon mine, looking down at me, his eyes large and shining with happiness. And then Jasper was gone and in his place was Simon. His expression was brooding and troubled. Before I could do or say anything, Simon reached over for the pillow beside me and then pressed it hard against my face…. I blacked out, and at that point, struggled to wake from the nightmare, a scream caught in my raw throat. In the second dream, I was living within an inner-city suburb, sharing a house with a group of people who seemed to lead a fairly wild and easy lifestyle. I seem to recall that wed stumbled through the door of our home in the wee small hours of the morning, a little worse for the wear, as a beautiful sunny morning lit up the city. I made my way to the kitchen, to fix a cup of tea I assume, and happened to glance out of the kitchen window at my neighbor’s yard. A middle-aged woman lived there with her two small dogs. I disliked both the woman and her annoying yapping animals intensely. And as it happened, I saw the 2 small dogs wandering about the yard, along with their nosey mistress, who spied me at the kitchen window. She gave me a look of disapproval, and then returned her attention to her dogs. At that point, I was no longer in the dream, but purely observing the dream; I watched as the 2 small dogs frolicked about the woman’s yard. And then they discovered a small hole that went under the rear fence. The dogs pawed at it and enlarged the hole, until they were able to wriggle under it. Beyond the fence, the 2 dogs were now in separate channels that had been carved into the earth, each probably around 40 centimeters wide and deep enough that the top of the channel was level with the dog’s jaw lines. Ignoring their mistress’s cries for their return, the two dogs scooted off along the man-made channels, until they were lost form my sight. I now followed the woman as she pursued the path her errant dogs had taken. She arrived at an area marked by two large areas of lawn, each bordered by a plain concrete edge. There was no sign of the woman’s dogs. Indeed, there wasn’t anything else of note to be seen for miles and miles, and not a sound to be heard, either. The woman approached the closest of the 2 lawn areas (both were several feet long and probably around 4 or 5 feet wide). She paused to stare at the lawn, and I could see that her gaze was fixed on one particular spot in the corner… something there had caught her gaze. Frowning, she stepped onto the lawn and approached the focus of her attention. As she drew closer, I, too, was able to make out in more detail what it was she was staring at; obscured beneath blades of grass was what appeared to be a part of a person’s face – just the narrow band that revealed the eyes, which were closed in gentle repose. But when the woman came closer, the eyes snapped open, bright and alert with Life. The grass beneath her feet seemed to shudder and ripple and sigh, and it became apparent that there were many, many more faces hidden beneath the grass… eyes opened, mouths appeared… lips sighed… At this point, strange albino-white roots emerged from below the grass in rigid, straight lines, reaching towards the woman… she screamed and backed away, but more and more of these wormy-white roots appeared from the ground, snaking towards her as if driven by an insatiable hunger. In a panic, the woman was looking all around for a route of escape… and as it happened, she caught a glimpse of white fur in amongst the roiling lawn; a snatch of the withered shell of one of her dogs, partially cocooned within the white-wormy roots; the small dogs’ face was twisted up in pain and terror, it’s skin decimated, and its lips pulled back in a grimace of fear and horror. The woman stumbled back in terror and shock, finding herself on the second lawn, surrounded by the white, wormy roots and the faces that shuddered and boiled beneath the blades of grass… I caught glimpses of the unearthly faces; rolling eyes, wild and frenzied, mouths filled with green, black and grey teeth and stink… and then I woke up…
