Friday, Jul. 01, 2005 - 17:27 Evil xBox - The Next Level: A Dream Hello gentle Reader. Woke from another peculiar dream in the wee small hours of this morning. Am happy to report it was a Simon-Free nightmare, although it did contain a violent aspect. Still, it was strange. Most of the details have faded, but this is the basic gist of it: along with a group of other people, perhaps half a dozen or so, I was participating in playing a video game. But it was an extremely sophisticated video game. Somehow one's consciousness is downloaded into the game console, permitting players to actually become their selected character and to exist and interact in the game’s Virtual World as if it were real. The sensation of having your consciousness downloaded was mighty odd... but nowhere near as strange as finding yourself in a computer rendered world where all your 5 senses functioned as they might in the Non-Virtual World. Anyway, the game we were playing was some kind of RPG (role playing game), and it was a ‘crossover game’, bringing in characters from the comic book world, as well as characters from movies and TV shows. I’d noticed that the characters of Spike and Angel, from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Universe were available for game play, and distinctly recall selecting Spike as my character. However, when I ‘woke up’ within the game, I found (to my annoyance) that I was actually Angel. And that Angel was wearing some kind of cheesy blue cape. Anyway, there didn’t seem to be much I could do about this ‘glitch’, so I went along with the other people in the game as we explored some kind of dark, sinister looking castle that was infested with all sorts of ghoulish creatures, rendered in pixels. I have vague memories of fighting a couple of werewolves on one level, and then we moved onto the ‘boss’ of that levels which turned out to be this enormous dog-like, wolf-like creature, with a shaggy grey coat and fiery yellow eyes. It beat the living shit out of me! And let me tell you – in this Virtual World, you feel pain! But, as Angel, I went into ’Lumpy Forehead Mode’ (i.e., he transformed into his vampiric persona), and jumped back into the fray, aided by my companions… That’s about all I can recall. To be honest, the geeky-nerd part of my nature so loved this dream! Damn but it would be cool if such a thing were possible!
