May the Force be with You: A Dream

Hello gentle Reader.

Many aspects of this dream were elusive and vague – such as the location and who, if anyone, was in the dream with me. However, some of the imagery was remarkably vivid; I was seated at a table in some room or other. Directly in front of me was my mobile phone. It sat there, approximately 30cms away from me.

I had an urge to use it so I put out my hand towards it and to my shock, the phone flew to my hand, seemingly of it’s own accord. The sense of surprise and amazement was so strong that I felt giddy. But I had the presence of mind to see if the ‘miracle’ could be repeated; I placed the phone back where it had been and extended my hand towards it.

I felt a curious sense of energy course through my body; there was an awareness of some presence – dare I say ’Force’? And once again, the phone came to my hand as if I had called it, like a dog to its owner.

Elated by the discovery of this newfound power, I found myself smiling ear-to-ear, and wondered what marvelous things I could do with this gift? I envisioned using it to help people… but before I could follow that thought through, I needed to know just how far this Gift went. I proceeded to test it further.

My Zippo cigarette lighter was in the pocket of my jeans. I took it out and set it on the tabletop. Focusing on the Zippo, I willed the flip-top cap to open; next, the flint struck and sparked, creating a flame. Thus far, I was quite pleased with my efforts. But as I gazed into the small flame I felt certain that I could do more.

My attention now on the flame, I willed it to shift it’s form to my own specifications. The flame thus shifted – like a burning liquid. It took on the shape of a deep bowl on a fine pedestal. Its design was reminiscent of something from Ancient Roman, complete with images of nubile goddesses and satyrs and whatnot frolicking on the bowl’s exterior. The bowl of course glowed brilliant, for it was totally comprised of fire, but it was fire that had been spread so thin as to be almost transparent… the visual effect was stunning.

I became so absorbed in my creation that I failed to noticed that the Zippo – on which the bowl ‘hovered’, had begun to move. It was spinning slowly on its base, going round and round in an anti-clockwise motion, and the speed of its movement increased inexorably. The flaming bowl was spinning, too. And soon they were spinning so fast as to become a blur to the eyes….

My ‘connection’ with the Zippo somehow broke – I think because I became aware of it spinning out of control, and in that moment the Zippo flew off the table like a missile, spitting hot, liquefied gas onto my right arm, burning me instantly. The burns blistered within seconds and the pain bit deep down to the bone…

At which point I woke up…
